The Families Implementing Good Health Traditions for Life study, called *FIGHT for Life*, aims to help Black families in Southwest Georgia prevent type 2 diabetes. The study uses a special version of the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) for parents and their children. The goal is for parents with pre-diabetes to lose 4% of their weight to reduce diabetes risk. The study involves community members and lasts 20 months.

  • Duration: 20-month commitment.
  • Participants: Black parent/guardian (18+ years) and child (8-15 years).
  • Activities: Includes physical activity and lifestyle changes.

Who can join? Black families with a parent having pre-diabetes (HbA1c level 5.7-6.4%). The family should be willing to stay in the area for 20 months and able to participate in physical activities.

Who can't join? Those with severe psychological issues, physical impairments, previous diabetes diagnosis, serious heart or kidney problems, or those pregnant or planning pregnancy.
