De-implementing Inhaled Nitric Oxide for Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia

This study looks at stopping the use of **inhaled nitric oxide (iNO)** for babies with **congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH)**, a condition where there's a hole in the baby's diaphragm. iNO is a gas used to help babies breathe after they are born. Researchers want to find out if not using iNO changes the need for **extracorporeal life support (ECLS)**, a machine that helps with breathing and blood flow, or affects survival rates. They also want to know if stopping iNO saves money for hospitals.

The study involves multiple hospitals, where they will first use iNO as usual and then stop using it. This change will happen at different times for each hospital, decided randomly.

  • The study involves babies diagnosed with CDH before they are one month old and who are treated at specific hospitals.
  • Babies with other types of diaphragmatic hernias or diagnosed after one month will not be included.
