Post-Operative Atrial Fibrillation (POAF) is a common heart problem after heart surgery. It can happen in more than 50% of patients and make recovery harder. This study, called BoxX-NoAF, wants to see if doing extra steps during heart surgery can stop this problem in people who haven’t had it yet but might get it. They do this by trying two things: ablation, which is a way to make tiny scars in your heart to stop bad signals, and closing off a part of the heart called the Left Atrial Appendage (LAA).
- This trial is for patients 65 or older who are having heart surgery and meet certain health criteria.
- You cannot join if you have a history of atrial fibrillation, certain heart conditions, or other specific health issues.
- This study might include additional procedures during your heart surgery, so think about the extra steps involved.
