Rise With Resilience is a study exploring how student-athletes can recover better from surgery using mindfulness. Mindfulness means paying close attention to your thoughts and feelings without judging them. This study is important because athletes often get injured, which can cause physical and mental challenges. Participants will be college athletes who need surgery for sports injuries like ACL tears or rotator cuff injuries.
The study will split participants into two groups. One group will learn mindfulness skills from the Community Resiliency Model® (CRM). The other group will follow normal written instructions on care after surgery. Over three months, researchers will compare the two groups to see if mindfulness helps with recovery and overall well-being.
- Study lasts three months post-surgery.
- Participants will use wrist-worn devices to track recovery.
- Questionnaires about health and pain will be filled out in person or via email.
Eligible participants are college athletes aged 18-26 scheduled for orthopedic surgery. They must speak English and have internet access. Those needing a second surgery or unable to consent cannot join.
