Study on Handgrip Exercise Training for CKD Patients
This study aims to see if using a handgrip exercise at home can help people with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) manage their blood pressure. CKD is a condition where the kidneys don't work as well as they should, leading to various health issues. The study will help understand how squeezing a grip tool might help lower blood pressure.
Participants need to visit the clinic 7 times in total, with visits lasting 1 to 3 hours each. The exercise program lasts 8 weeks. You will squeeze the grip tool for 2 minutes, four times, with each hand, three times a week. Blood samples will be collected to see any changes in your body.
- Duration: The study lasts about 12 weeks including 8 weeks of home exercise training.
- Visits: You will attend 7 visits, each lasting 1-3 hours.
- Eligibility: For CKD patients aged 45-85 who exercise less than 20 minutes twice a week.
Participation is voluntary, and the study is conducted in the Emory Healthcare System. No specimens or data banks will be maintained, and consent will be given in person.
