The Women's Heart Attack Research Program (HARP): Stress Ancillary Study is looking at women who have had a heart attack, known as myocardial infarction (MI). After a heart attack, **cardiac enzymes** (chemicals in the blood that show heart damage) and **electrocardiograms** (ECGs, a test that shows the heart's activity) can be abnormal. Two months after the heart attack, women will be checked for stress. If they feel a lot of stress, they can join the study. Women will be randomly placed in one of two groups: Enhanced Usual Care (EUC) or stress management, for 8 weeks. The study lasts 6 months, and women will have phone sessions once a week. The goal is to learn how stress affects women after a heart attack.
- Study involves 8 weekly phone sessions over 6 months.
- About 200 women will join to find 144 suitable participants.
- Participants need to be women over 21 who had a heart attack.
