Heart Rate Variability (HRV) refers to changes in the time between heartbeats. This study helps young people aged 13-18 with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), a condition that causes the intestines to become inflamed. The study will test a special program that teaches coping skills and uses HRV biofeedback, which is a way to see and control your heart rate to help with autonomic dysfunction (problems with the part of the nervous system that controls things like heart rate and digestion). Participants will be randomly chosen to either receive the treatment or be on a wait-list.
Participants must have IBD, be able to speak English, and have access to the internet. They will attend 4 in-person visits and 6 virtual sessions over 7 months. The study involves surveys, reviews of health records, blood and stool samples, and non-invasive tests.
- Study duration is 7 months with 10 total sessions.
- Participants must have a parent involved.
- Certain health conditions and medications could prevent participation.
