This study is for people aged 18 to 65 with major depressive disorder (MDD), which is a type of long-lasting sadness. The goal is to see if a medicine called BI 1569912 can help. Participants are randomly put into 4 groups. Three groups take different doses of BI 1569912, while one group takes a placebo, which looks like the medicine but doesn't have any medicine in it. You will take the tablets once a day for 6 weeks.

The study lasts about 2.5 months, and you need to visit the study site at least 7 times. Doctors will ask about your depression and check your health. They will also look for any unwanted effects. At the end, they will compare results to see if the treatment works.
