This study explores if mindfulness meditation (MM), a type of mental exercise, can help people with chronic kidney disease (CKD), a long-term condition where the kidneys don't work properly. Researchers are also testing if a method called transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) can make MM more effective. CKD affects millions and increases the risk of heart problems. This is partly due to the sympathetic nervous system (SNS)
The study has two parts: the first part checks how 8 weeks of MM affects SNS and BP in people with CKD. The second part looks at whether adding tVNS to MM can improve these effects. Participants with moderate CKD will be put into one of four groups: MM with real tVNS, MM with fake tVNS, a health program with real tVNS, and a health program with fake tVNS. They will use the tVNS device at home twice a day for 8 weeks.
- 8-week program with two daily sessions at home
- Participants get assigned to one of four groups
- Testing if MM and tVNS can safely improve health in CKD
