Phase 3

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a disease where the large intestine and rectum get swollen and bleed. This study looks at how a drug called Upadacitinib works in kids and teens with UC. Upadacitinib is already used for adults with UC. The study has two parts: Period 1 starts with an 8-week phase where everyone knows they're getting the drug. Then, there's a 44-week phase where neither the doctors nor patients know the specific dose they're taking. Period 2 is longer, lasting 260 weeks, where everyone knows they're getting the drug.

Kids will take the medicine either as a daily pill or a liquid twice daily. They'll have regular hospital or clinic visits for check-ups, blood tests, and to see how they're doing. There might be more trips to the doctor than usual.

  • This study lasts a long time, over 5 years.
  • Participants will have many doctor visits.
  • Some people may find the extra visits and tests tiring.
