Study on Fenofibrate for Eye Health in Diabetes
This study is testing if the drug **fenofibrate** can stop diabetic retinopathy (DR) from getting worse. Diabetic retinopathy is an eye problem caused by diabetes. The study will compare fenofibrate to a placebo (a pill that doesn't have any medicine) to see which works better over 6 years. It focuses on patients with a type of DR called non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) and no central-involved diabetic macular edema (CI-DME), which are early stages of eye damage.
Doctors will work together to safely give and monitor the medicine. If fenofibrate helps, it might become a new way to stop serious eye problems from diabetes. This could mean fewer people need expensive treatments that can have side effects.
- Study lasts for 6 years and tests fenofibrate.
- Participants must be 18-79 years old with diabetes.
- Participants are not paid but may help prevent serious eye issues.
