This study is testing if acupuncture (a treatment using thin needles) and guided relaxation (a way to help calm the mind) can help people with Chronic Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) pain. SCD is a genetic blood disorder causing sickle-shaped red blood cells, leading to pain and health problems. Researchers will work with 360 participants at three hospitals: University of Illinois, University of Florida, and Duke University. They will compare acupuncture and guided relaxation to regular care to see which helps more with pain, sleep, and mood.
Participants will try different sequences of these treatments to find the best one. For example, starting with relaxation and switching to acupuncture if needed. The study also looks at how age and gender affect outcomes and examines how well these treatments fit into hospital care. They will interview participants and hospital staff for feedback.
- **Duration**: 6-week study with different treatment options.
- **Visits**: Participation involves multiple visits for treatment and feedback.
- **Eligibility**: Must have Sickle Cell Disease and speak English.
