This study is about children who need heart surgery. It looks at kids weighing between 3.5 to 12 kilograms (about 8 to 26 pounds). The study checks if it's better not to give blood transfusions during their surgery. Cardiopulmonary bypass is a machine that takes over the job of the heart and lungs during surgery. The goal is to see if children who don't receive blood transfusions have fewer problems and recover faster. It will compare children who receive blood with those who do not.
Eligibility: To join, children must weigh between 3.5 to 12 kilograms and need planned heart surgery using the bypass machine. They must not be in an emergency, or have certain blood problems or weigh outside the specified range.
- Duration: The length of stay in the ICU and hospital will be monitored.
- Requirements: Surgery must use a bypass machine and be planned, not emergency.
- Risks: The study explores risks of not using blood transfusions.
