PoNS therapy is a treatment used to help people who have had a chronic stroke, which means a stroke that happened more than six months ago. A stroke occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is stopped, causing brain cells to die. This study is testing a device called PoNS to see if it can help improve walking and balance. Participants will use the PoNS device and do special exercises for 12 weeks.
They will work with a physical therapist, called a Trainer, who is specially trained in using the PoNS device. The Trainer will design exercises that are just right for each person. The treatment has two parts: for the first 4 weeks, the exercises are done at the clinic with the Trainer, and for the next 8 weeks, the exercises are done at home. After finishing the 12-week treatment, participants will have a follow-up visit 12 weeks later to see how well the therapy worked.
- Participants must commit to a 12-week treatment plan.
- Visits to the clinic are required for part of the study.
- Participants need to be able to follow instructions and do exercises at home.
