Phase 4
Study Overview: This research examines schizophrenia, a brain disorder that affects how a person thinks and feels. It focuses on "negative symptoms" like lack of motivation, which are hard to treat. Participants will receive either infliximab (an anti-inflammatory medicine) or a placebo (a harmless substance). Key Points:
  • Visits: The study requires 9 visits over about a month. Some visits are short (1-2 hours), and some longer (up to 6-7 hours).
  • Eligibility: Adults aged 18-45 with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder and high inflammation can join if they meet the criteria.
  • Compensation: Participants may receive money during computer games played as part of the study.
Participants will undergo tests, including blood draws and brain scans, to see how the medication affects brain areas linked to rewards and motivation. Written consent is needed, and participants must be aware of all procedures. About 60 people will be screened to find 20 suitable participants.
