This study is looking at how a supplement called Equol might help keep arteries flexible and improve memory in healthy adults between 65 and 85. Equol is made from soy and has plant estrogen-like compounds. The study will run for two years and participants need to visit the clinic 7 times. They will take Equol daily and have tests like Pulse Wave Velocity (to check artery stiffness) and brain scans (MRI) to see if Equol helps.
Key Points:
- The study lasts 2 years with 7 clinic visits required.
- Participants will take Equol tablets daily.
- Tests include measurements of artery stiffness and brain scans.
Participants cannot join if they take soy supplements often, have certain health conditions, or if they can't have an MRI. The study aims to see if Equol, which is approved by the FDA, can slow down memory decline and artery stiffening. This research is happening at universities in Pittsburgh, North Carolina, and Georgia.
