Firdapse for Post-BOTOX Vocal Weakness Study is exploring if amifampridine can help reduce voice weaknesses after Botox treatments. Botox injections are used to treat a condition called spasmodic dysphonia (SD), which causes vocal breaks. These injections into the throat muscle can make your voice weak and breathy for 2-3 weeks. Amifampridine might help with this by boosting a chemical called acetylcholine, which helps nerves and muscles talk to each other.
Eligibility: You can join if you are 18 or older, have SD, and experience breathiness after Botox. You need to agree to use birth control if you can have children, as amifampridine's effects on pregnancy and breastfeeding are not well known.
- Study involves checking how amifampridine affects voice weakness from Botox.
- Avoid if you have epilepsy or take certain medications, as this could increase seizure risk.
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding cannot participate.
Before joining, discuss any concerns or medical conditions with your doctor to ensure this study is safe for you.
