Phase 4

The STRIVE trial is testing a new way to help people with COVID-19 who are in the hospital and need oxygen. COVID-19 can make our immune systems go out of control, which can make us sicker. This study looks at using a medicine called abatacept, along with the usual treatment, to see if it helps patients get better faster compared to a placebo (fake treatment) with the usual care. Both groups will get more immune system help if they get worse while in the study.

Key Points:
  • The trial involves taking abatacept and standard care if you're hospitalized and need low flow oxygen.
  • If your COVID-19 gets worse, you'll receive extra care, whether you're in the active group or not.
  • People who need a lot of oxygen or have other serious health issues might not be able to join.

You may be eligible if you have a confirmed COVID-19 infection and are in the hospital needing oxygen, but you can't join if you need high amounts of oxygen or have other major health risks. Always talk to your doctor to see if joining this study is right for you.
