This study is testing a medicine called tirzepatide in kids and teens who are overweight or have obesity. Obesity means having a Body Mass Index (BMI) at or above the 95th percentile for one's age and sex, while overweight is a BMI between the 85th and 95th percentiles. BMI is a way to measure body fat using height and weight. Participants must also have a health problem linked to their weight, like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or sleep issues.
The study lasts about 90 weeks, which is almost two years, and there could be up to 25 visits to the doctor. Participants with Type 2 Diabetes can join if they have been managing it with diet, exercise, or a stable medication called metformin.
Some people can't join, like those who have lost a lot of weight recently, have Type 1 Diabetes, or have a family history of certain cancers. They're also not allowed to take weight-loss meds or plan weight-loss surgeries during the study.
